Quiet but ... not quiet?

I have not had a lot of time to paint recently, which means there have not been a lot of photos on this here blog. I'm hoping to get an evening this coming week, but you never know.

But that doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything game-related. In addition to running my usual games, I've been working on some longer projects that I'm hopefully going to be able to talk about soon. It's been a lot of work, but it's all led up to something I predict you're going to enjoy.

I guess that's just a way of saying "sorry it's been quiet lately, but it's going to pay off soon."

Also it's the end of term, work is demented and I'm sick as a dog, so that's not helping.

The week's headlines!

It's been a busy week, so, in grand "three things make a post" tradition, here are a few bits of news from the world of gaming and my own writing.

World of Synnibarr has the reputation of being the worst RPG ever. I actually don't agree with that, but it is definitely one of the craziest. I have written extensively about it, but now you can check it out for yourself in a new edition! I haven't bought it yet, but if reader demand is high enough I could be persuaded. I mean, the corebook's only a tenner.

Only one of these people is a Synnibarr character, but they all could be and that's the beauty of it.

It is not strictly gaming-related, but over on the blog for the Doctor Who podcast I co-host with my old pal Jesse I have written about Doctor Who comics in the 80s and the oddness thereof.

I have just learned that Salute this year clashes with a game I am running, meaning that I may not be able to make it. Disappointing! Where shall I go instead?

The charm of display

One of the things I like about my study is that from my desk I can look out over my monitors and see the rest of the study, including my little displays of painted minis and my books and so on. It really boosts my morale and gives me a feeling of satisfaction; silly, I know, but there you are.

So when I realised that I was annoyed with the process of packing and unpacking terrain I decided that I would just put the pieces out on the shelf. After all, I don't have to keep things in the shed any more. Now I can just pull a piece of terrain out to use in a game without having to get it out of a box -- and better yet, I can just look over at it all and give a little smile every now and again.

As you can see, the shelves are pretty crowded. I should get some of this little perspex shelves to create multiple tiers, effectively increasing the number of shelves.

The whole shelf.

Top shelf: some buildings, mostly scatter.

Post-apocalyptic scatter.

Some buildings and more scatter, fences, barricades etc.

Graveyards, treasure, and the bomb.
Currently using this stuff for Frostgrave. Church is unfinished, obvs.

Post-apocalyptic/sci-fi/zombie stuff.

Various! I started running out of room here.

A very quick post

I have left today's blog post too late, so here is a quick roundup of what's going on in gaming life at the moment:

  • My D&D game continues to go well; tonight's session saw our heroes forge an alliance with a goofy old drunk, plan and execute a jailbreak and go to a big party. They started a fight, but it was getting late so we're going to handle that next session.
  • I have recently experienced a renewed surge of creativity (or just more things worth swiping coming across my desk) for my live-action Requiem game. I am going into the next session full of enthusiasm and hopefully with fun new things for everyone to do.
  • My first game of Frostgrave is tomorrow, and I'm very excited about it! As always, I'm late to the party, but I tend to wait to see if a game takes off first.
  • I am still playing and enjoying my Changeling character -- I didn't have the huge burst of keen that many of the other players in the society seem to have had, but that may just be because I was already quite enthusiastic.
  • I am working on a couple of gaming projects I don't want to talk about prematurely, but watch this space for future announcements.
I promise a more detailed post on Friday, with plenty of pictures.
